This collection consists of papers concerning the professional nursing and public health career of Eugenia Wassell Ohls. Among the papers are 21 prints and 3 negatives primarily relating to her career in Alaska.

The collection consists of the contents of a Kansas couple's scrapbook from a travel trailer caravan tour to Alaska in 1989. The collection contains 2 original color prints and 59 color photo and art post card. The original photographs are of a caravan party in August of 1989, and the Old Faithful in 1988. The post cards are from several stops on their trip in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Washington, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon Territory and Alaska.

The collection consists of the album and home movies of a construction company executive. The collection contains 101 original black and white prints and 43 departmental black and white preservation copy negatives of selected images. Subjects include: construction company executives and workers; construction camps; temporary and permanent bridges; Sweetwater Saw Mill Camp; Dawson Creek; Fort Nelson; vehicles and heavy equipment; and highway scenery.

PETER R. AND BEULAH MARRS PARISI. Papers; n.d., 1938, 1941-1947, 1950, 1972, 1993-1995. 1.2 cu. ft. List.
The collection consists of Beulah Marrs Parisi's biographical scrapbooks, photographs, and related materials concerning her life in Anchorage during World War II and her volunteer work with the USO. The photographs include 332 copy prints and 332 black and white copy negatives made from the scrapbooks, plus 35 original prints and 3 negatives. These photos primarily relate to USO activities, and people and locations in Anchorage.

GEORGE A. PARKS (1883-1984). Press Photographs; 1925, 1929-1931. .1 cu. ft. List.
The collection consists of six different black and white photographs of an Alaska Territorial Governor. Four of the prints are portraits, one is of  Parks delivering an address at the corner stone laying of the new territorial building in Juneau (May 6, 1930), and the last is of Parks and other Alaskan territorial officials seated around the conference table of the new building (1931).

FRANK PAULS (1914-2001). Papers; 1909-1998. 5.5 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection consists of the papers of Dr. Frank Pauls, a public health microbiologist and administrator in Alaska. Series 13, photographs and transparencies, contains 107 black and white prints, 6 color prints, 8 color transparencies, 3 black and white negatives, and 12 color negatives. The images concern his service with the Alaska Department of Health, the Medical Service Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve, the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene, and the International Biological Program, which studied Eskimo populations in Northwest Alaska. Miscellaneous and unidentified photographs are also included. A small number of other photographs and slides have been left with their original files in the collection.

The collection contains a photograph of Theodore Pedersen's grave marker.

LEO PEGLOSKI. World War II Photograph Album; n.d., 1944-1945. .2 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the album of  a soldier who served in the 1416th Army Air Force Base Unit at Nome Air Base. The collection contains 3 black and white photo post cards and 168 original black and white prints. Subjects of the original prints include: U. S. Army soldiers at Nome Air Base; Nome street and beach scenes; Inupiat peoples; whale boats; Lend Lease aircraft; Nome Air Base vehicles; a gold dredge; mine buildings; and area scenery.

JOHN A. PERKINS. Photograph Album; 1947-1948. .25 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the contents of an album concerning a trip from Mamaroneck, New York to Nome, Alaska, in 1947. The collection contains 154 original black and white prints; 2 black and white photo post cards and three color photo post cards. Subjects include: railroad travel between New York and Seattle; steamship travel between Seattle and Seward; Alaska Railroad travel between Seward and Fairbanks; buildings and people in Nome; buildings, airplanes and military facilities at Marks Field in Nome; a visit by General Dwight D. Eisenhower to Marks Field; the DC-3 aircraft Clipper Reindeer; and the Seward Peninsula narrow gauge railroad out of Nome.

PETE. Soldier's Photograph Album; n.d., 1931-1962. .25 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the album of a U. S. Army cook who served at Fort Richardson in 1948. The collection contains: 238 original black and white prints; 19 original color prints; and 20 black and white Alaskan commercial tourist prints. Subjects of the original prints include: Pete and fellow soldiers and friends at Fort Custer, Michigan, Fort Richardson, Alaska, and other duty stations; and family and friends in Battle Creek, Michigan and elsewhere.

ALMER J. PETERSON (1890-1962). Papers and Photographs; 1935-1937, 1946, 1948. .25 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection consists primarily of attorney Almer J. Peterson's photograph album and other papers and photographs. There are 118 black and white prints and 114 copy negatives. They almost entirely relate to the Matanuska Colony and vicinity (1935-1937).

RALPH AND SELMA PETERSON. Photograph Album; 1952-1956. .25 cu. ft.
This collection consists of the family photograph album of Ketchikan residents Ralph and Selma Peterson. The collection contains 381 black and white and 1 color print. Subjects of the photographs include: Ralph and Selma Peterson with family and friends; boats and steamships; fishermen and a salmon cannery; the 4th of July Parade in 1954; and area buildings, homes, and scenery.

MICHAEL PHILIP. Papers and photographs; 1932, 1933, 1983. 1 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection contains the papers of Michael Philip, film crew member for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios during the production of the film, Eskimo (1932-1933). The collection contains 413 original black and white photographs concerning the production of that film. The photographs consist of images taken on location during the production work. Alaska locations include Nome, Teller, Point Hope, Cape Lisburne, Kivalina, King Island, Prince William Sound, and the Inside Passage. Other locations include the waters off Herald Island near Wrangell Island in the Arctic Ocean, and the waters off Cape Serdsti on the Chukotsk Peninsula. The photographs depict the film crew, cast, housing, and sets; the hunting of walrus, polar bear, and whale; coastal glaciers in Alaska; and the ship, Nanuk, which was used in the film. There are also 182 copy prints and 182 copy negatives as well as 46 duplicate prints.

"MILL" PLUM. World War II Photograph Album; 1942-1944. .2 cu. ft.
The collection consists of 138 black and white photographs. The majority of photographs in the album were taken while Sergeant Plum was stationed in the Aleutians from September 1943 to October 1944. Subjects of the images include housing, equipment, and many of soldiers at work and in leisure moments as well.

DONALD ARTHUR POST. Color Slides; 1953-1959. .45 cu. ft.
The collection consists of 1,052 color 35mm slides taken by Donald Arthur Post as he traveled to and around Alaska.  Subjects include Anchorage, the Kenai Peninsula, Sitka, Palmer, Fairbanks, Nome, Unalakleet, Cordova, Wasilla, and other towns.  Events include Alaska Native dances, sled dog races, hunting and fishing trips, the Anchorage Fur Rendezvous, statehood celebrations, and his travel up the Alaska Highway when he moved to Anchorage from Chicago.

EDNA AND MARTHA PREUSS. Tourist Photograph Album; 1940. .2 cu. ft. The collection consists of the photograph album of two Alaska tourists. The collection contains 48 black and white prints. Subjects include: passengers aboard the S.S. Yukon; people, streets, docks and scenery in Wrangell, Sitka and Skagway; the Superior Packing Company cannery at Tenakee Inlet; and scenes along the White Pass and Yukon Railway.

The collection consists of the Alaskan correspondence, color slides and memorabilia items of U. S. Air Force nurse Norma Purdy. The collection contains: 168 color slides and 16 photo post cards. Subjects of the color slides include: Elmendorf Air Force Base; the Glenn Highway; Eklutna; the Alaska Railroad on the Kenai Peninsula; Arctic Valley; Fort Richardson; Bethel; Downtown Anchorage; McKinley National Park; Nome; Kotzebue; effects of the Mt. Spurr eruption (July 1953); the Richardson Highway; Ester Creek Gold Mine; Kodiak; Seward and Resurrection Bay; glaciers; and Juneau. Subjects of the ten black and white and six color photo post cards include: Fort Richardson, Mount McKinley, Seward, Cook Inlet, and Nenana.

KENNETH QUADE. Slides; ca. 1960-1970. .1 cu. ft.
The collection consists of 40 color slides published by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa. The slides contain images taken along a trip on the Alaska Highway from Dawson Creek to Fairbanks. Images primarily include road signs, buildings, scenic views, and various bridges.

The collection consists of the photographs of a soldier who served in the Headquarters Company of the Alaska Defense Command at Fort Richardson. The collection contains 423 black and white prints. Subjects include: Francis Queever and fellow soldiers and local civilians; Fort Richardson; Anchorage; Ship Creek; Mount McKinley National Park; Elmendorf Field; Wasilla; Palmer; Cottonwood Creek; Eklutna Village; Green Lake; Knik River; and Finger Lake.

The collection consists of 18 color slides (and 18 prints made from them) of the first Anchorage Community College Commencement taken by William and Frances Ray (she was the first Registrar of Anchorage Community College). There is also a list identifying the individuals on each slide.

The collection consists of papers relating to Maxine Reed and to her work on the Greater Anchorage Area Borough Consumers Commission. Among the papers are 21 photographs of various places in Alaska (1900-1935, 1958).

The collection consists primarily of papers relating to Philip Reed's military service with the Alaska Communications System. Series 4, Photographs, contains 315 black and white contact prints and 315 copy negatives of photographs relating to Philip and Retta Reed's family and their life in Alaska. They were selected from the original photographs in the possession of the Reed family. They primarily relate to their life and activities in Alaska.

The collection consists of biographical materials, published and unpublished works by Marguerite Reiss, photographs, miscellaneous papers, and oral history transcripts. Series 4 in the collection, contains 4 photographs concerning Marguerite Reiss and relating to her literary activities.

ZENAS RICHARDS. World War II Photograph Album; 1941-1945. .2 cu. ft. List.
The collection consists of photographs taken from the album of a U.S. Army serviceman stationed near Fairbanks. The photographs include 64 pictures taken by Richards in Alaska, and 71 pictures taken by family members and his girlfriend. Subjects include: Fairbanks; the U.S.O. building in Fairbanks; a camp at Birch Lake; Circle Hot Springs; a gold dredge at Fox; McKinley National Park; the Richards family; and Richards' girlfriend Lucile "Gracie" Hughes, her family, and friends. Also, there are 28 4x5 copy negatives of selected prints.

GEORGE F. RICKEY (1922-1985). World War II Papers and Photographs; 1943-1945. .45 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of the World War II era papers and photographs of bomber navigator George F. Rickey. The collection contains 135 black and white copy prints from original negatives, and 22 black and white copy negatives. The photographs are from Rickey's service with the 77th Bombadier Squadron, stationed at Adak Army Air Field, and are primarily of fellow airmen, aircraft (B-25 Mitchell Bomber, PBY, Ventura Bomber, P-38 Fighter, and C-47 Transport), and airfields.

MATTHEW M. RIGLEY, JR. (1905-1977). World War II Photograph Album; n.d., 1942-1945, 1948, 1957, 1969. .25 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the contents of the World War II era photograph album of a U. S. Army Reserve Corps soldier stationed at Fort Greely on Kodiak Island. The collection contains: 158 original black and white prints; 20 black and white photo post cards; 8 black and white tourist prints of Kodiak Island scenery; 10 Alaska tourist prints; and 11 post World War II black and white prints. Subjects of the original prints include: Matthew Rigley and fellow soldiers at Fort Greely; the Utilities Detachment furnace and refrigeration shops and other buildings and facilities at Fort Greely; the town and people of Kodiak; and Kodiak Island scenery.

RICHARD RISSMAN. World War II Photographs; 1942-1944. .7 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the photographs of a Chemical Warfare Service soldier and amateur photographer stationed at Fort Richardson during World War II. It includes a xerographic copy of Rissman's World War II photograph album (76 pages); the photographic prints from that album (347 b&w prints, 33 b&w copy negatives); and loose photographic prints of Alaska (125 b&w prints; 6 b&w copy negatives). Subjects or locations include: family; Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland (1942); Fort Lewis, Washington (1942); the Matanuska Valley; McKinley National Park, the McKinley Park Hotel; the Kashim (an 11th Air Force club);Fort Richardson army tent camps and facilities; the Anchorage USO Building (interior and exterior); Providence Hospital; the airport; and other subjects.

Most of the papers in this collection relate to Victor C. Rivers. Other materials concern his second wife, Elleighfare "Rusty" Rivers, Julian Guy Rivers, Ralph Rivers, Virginia Proffitt, Russell Guy Rivers, Richard L. Rivers, and Fern Rivers. Among the papers are several series which contain photographs. Series 9, Photographs, includes 124 photos relating to his business and professional work; 77 photos relating to family, friends, and various areas of Alaska; 14 photos relating to politics; 103 photos concerning World War II; and 41 negatives. Also, there are 3 photos relating to Virginia Proffitt and 6 relating to Ralph Rivers.

RICHARD C. RIVETT. World War II Service Papers; 1943-1945. .2 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the World War II service papers of Richard C. Rivett, who was a communications officer at Adak and Shemya. The collection contains six black and white photographs (4 different). They are official U.S. Army Air Forces photographs from Adak, showing a radar receiver and soldiers launching balloons, possibly to test radar equipment. Also, there are four 4x5 copy negatives of the prints.

JOHN R. "JACK" RODERICK. Papers; 1900-2002. 27 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection consists of the personal, political, and historical papers of former Anchorage mayor and author of the book, Crude Dreams: A Personal History of Oil & Politics in Alaska, Jack Roderick. Sixteen photographs are located in Series 1, personal papers; 247 photographs are located in Series 10, oil in Alaska related photographs; and 66 photographs, primarily mounted exhibit prints, are located in Series 11, 100 Years of Exploration: A Photographic Exhibition. Subjects of these photographs include Jack Roderick's political career (Series 1), and the history of oil exploration and development in Alaska (Series 1, 10, and 11).

The collection consists of the Canada and Alaska tourist photograph album of a Newport, Rhode Island resident. The album contains: 109 original black and white prints; 90 black and white commercial tourist prints; and 46 black and white and color-tinted photo post cards. Subjects of the original photographs include: the Government Locks in Seattle, the S.S. Princess Kathleen; Victoria, Vancouver, the Canadian Pacific Railway, Banff National Park, Dawson Creek, the Alaska Highway; Whitehorse, the Richardson and Glenn highways, the Alaska Railroad, Mount McKinley National Park, and Ester Gold Mine near Fairbanks.  

CHARLES HENRY ROSENTHAL (1930-2003). Papers; 1969, 1972, 2002-2003. .2 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the papers, photographs, and lighter of a press officer of the oil tanker S.S. Manhattan relating to its winter maiden voyage through the Northwest Passage in 1969. The collection contains: a black and white print of Bram Mookhoek, Rosenthal, and Stan Haas going over the location of the ship while stuck in Melville Sound; and an oversize color print of the ship breaking through the ice.

JOSEPH AND LISA RUDD. Papers; ca. 1908, 1943-1984. 27 cu. ft. Series Descriptions.
Joseph Rudd was a natural resources lawyer. His wife, Lisa Rudd, was an Alaska political figure. This collection is divided into three parts: the Joseph Rudd Papers; the Lisa Rudd Papers; and Maps. There are 3 family related photographs in the Joseph Rudd Papers. There are 213 prints, 156 negatives, and 163 slides among the Lisa Rudd Papers relating to her election campaigns in 1976 and 1980. Also, there are 17 photographs relative to Lisa Rudd, Governor Sheffield, and politics in the Department of Administration Series.

RURAL ALASKA COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAM (RURALCAP). Records; 1965-1981. 100 cu. ft. Inventory.
The papers in this collection consist primarily of administrative and operational records of RURALCAP. Among these records, there is an extensive body of photographs, at least 2050 prints, negatives, and contact prints. These relate to the history and activities of the organization.

W. L. "WILL" RUSHO (b. 1928). Photographs and Memoir; 1947-1948, 2004. .1 cu. ft. List.
This collection includes 59 digitized photographs taken in Whittier and the surrounding vicinity.

THOMAS SAMPSON. Photograph Album; 1942-1945. .2 cu. ft.
This collection consists of a album compiled by Thomas Sampson detailing his service in the United States Naval Reserve in Alaska during World War II. The album contains schedules relative to his trip to Alaska, maps, poetry, and 220 black and white photographs. There are also 21 black and white 4x5 copy negatives.

T. SAPLAK. Alaska Highway Construction Photograph Album; 1942-1943. .2 cu. ft.
The collection consists of Corporal T. Saplak's photograph album relating to his military service and construction of the Alaska Highway in British Columbia. The collection contains 87 photographs. General subjects include: construction camps, fellow soldiers, civilian workmen, scenes along the highway, military and civilian vehicles and heavy equipment used during road construction, bridges, river ferries, and riverboats.

DWIGHT L. SAWYER. Fairbanks Mining District Prospecting Reports and Reference Maps; n.d., 1913, 1917, 1927, 1929-1931. .2 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the prospecting reports of a California mining engineer, and Alaska and British Columbia reference maps. The report for the Fourth of July Hill Group Tertiary River Deposit includes four black and white prints of placer mining operations.

This collection contains papers and photos related to the life of Jack Scavenius. The Photographs and Scrapbooks series contains 468 b&w prints, 2 color prints, 96 b&w negatives, relating to Scavenius in Alaska and Denmark.

The collection consists of 1,182 scenic color 35mm slides by a Ketchikan photographer. Subjects include: Anchorage; Banff; Bell Island and Bailey Bay; Ben-My-Chree and Mt. Fairweather; Columbia Glacier; Cordova; Glacier Bay; Guard Island; Haines and Juneau; Ketchikan; New England Cannery; Schallerer's Photo Shop; Seward; Sitka; Skagway; Ward Creek, Ward Lake and Second Lake; White Pass and Yukon Railroad; Wrangell and Saxman; and Annette Island..

OTTO SCHALLERER. (Ak. Hist. Soc. Col.). Photographs; 1929. .4 cu. ft. List.
This collection consists of 21 photographs sent by professional photographer Otto Schallerer of Seward, Alaska, to Delbert Smith of Nepanee, Ontario. Most of the photographs are hand colored scenic views of mountains, lakes, rivers, glaciers, waterfalls, and roads. In addition, there is a picture of a collection of hunting trophies and a copy of the All-Alaska Review for 1929, a publication of the Cordova Daily Times.

HARRY C. SCHILLER. World War II Papers; 1941-1945, 1948. .25 cu. ft. List.
The collection consists of the papers of 7th Infantry Division Band member, Harry C. Schiller. It includes 45 black and white prints and seven negatives. Subjects of the photographs include: Harry Schille'rs family and friends; the 7th Infantry Division Band; the Buddy Barrows swing band, and service in Hawaii.

ARLENE SCHMULAND. Photographs; 2003-2004. .25 cu. ft.
This collection consists of over 220 prints and negatives taken by Arlene Schmuland concerning activities in the UAA Consortium Library between 2003 and 2004. Included are views of the new library addition, remodeling the old library, the grand opening, and the pendulum dedication ceremony.

R. T. SCHULTZ (d. 1981). Papers; n.d., 1943, 1970, 1979-1981. .25 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of material relating to R. T. Schultz's activities as an Alaskan pilot. It includes 10 photographs of various Alaskan pilots and planes.

THOMAS SEXTON. Photographs and Negatives; ca. 1900-1929. .5 cu. ft. List.
The materials in this collection primarily relate to UAA Professor Tom Sexton's interest in photography. The collection is divided into two series. The first series contains over 170 black and white photographs and 7 negatives depicting Alaskan natives; native activities, schools, native villages including King Island, White Mountain, Teller, Deering, and Point Hope; animals, scenery; and buildings. The photographs primarily date from the 1920's. The second series consists of 44 glass plate negatives, primarily undated, of various subjects, including: Alaskan towns such as Chitina, Juneau, Atlin, Cordova, and Nome; animals, natives, Treadwell Mine in Juneau; scenery, and other subjects.

SEWARD (ALASKA) CHURCH OF CHRIST MEMBER FAMILY. Photograph Album; ca. 1945-1947. .3 cu. ft.
This collection consists of 239 photographs and 3 postcards relating to Seward and surrounding areas. Subjects of the images include the Church of Christ, the USO building, the Seward Bank Block, street scenes, hunting and fishing, planes, and the 1947 Seward kindergarten school class.

This collection consists of a 74 page scrapbook compiled by Miss Ethel M. Shaw concerning her trip to the Western US, Alaska, and Canada, in July 1937. Included in the album are 136 photographs and postcards depicting images of the cities and town she visited. These include Montreal, Vancouver, Carcross, and Ben-My-Chree, Canada; Ketchikan, Wrangell, Sitka, Juneau, and Skagway, Alaska; and Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago.

This collection consists of the papers of journalist Jerome F. Sheldon. The collection is divided into six series. The Alaska Subject Files series includes over 200 prints, negatives, and contact sheets among various files. There are a few photographs in the other series.

This collection consists of a scrapbook compiled by Anchorage resident John Shipman. The collection contains 35 black and white photographs of earthquake damage around Anchorage.

Papers of a union advocate and a member of the hotel and restaurant employees union. Series 5 contains 57 black and white and 446 color prints relating to her union work and her travels around the world.

The collection consists of the clippings and photographs of an Anchorage pioneer. The collection contains: 575 black and white photo prints; 52 color prints; 86 black and white photo post cards; 17 color photo post cards; 4 black and white photo greeting cards; 1 black and white negative; and a xerographic copy of watercolor renderings of the Pioneer Hall in Anchorage. The collection consists of the photograph album of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers soldier, Tony Simola. The album contains 131 black and white photographs. These primarily depict the people and activities of the army engineers office at Fort Richardson during Simola's tour of duty there in 1942-1943. Included are photographs of individuals and groups of commissioned and noncommissioned officers, enlisted and civilian personnel, and friends. Also included are a few family photographs, including one from 1934.

The collection consists of the Alaska cruise photograph album of a family who took a Princess Cruises tour out of Vancouver, British Columbia. The collection contains 79 color photographs and 6 color photo post cards. Subjects include the deck and interior of the Golden Princess, and scenes in Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay, and Ketchikan.

The collection consists of the contents of an album created by a U. S. Engineer at Eagle. It contains: 2 original black and white photographic prints; 3 black and white photo post cards; and 23 color photo post cards. Subjects of the original photographs include: the "Fairbanks Scales" building; and three men and a Federal automobile stopped on a narrow dirt road. Mr. and Mrs. William P. Smith traveled to Southeast Alaska by boat in late 1891. This collection consists of a photograph album containing 48 (4.5 X 3.5 inch b&w) photographs belonging to Mr. and Mrs. William P. Smith. The pictures were taken during a cruise through Southeast Alaska in 1891. The black and white photos include images of Glacier Bay; Wrangell Narrows; Muir, Taku and Patterson glaciers; the towns of Wrangell, Juneau, Douglas, and Sitka; Treadwell Mine; Baranof Castle; Native traders; the Russian Church at Sitka; and waterfalls and other scenery.

This collection consist of 21 black and white photographs of southeast Alaska subjects on mount boards. Places depicted include Chilkat, Douglas Island, Fort Wrangell, Howkan, Juneau, Muir Glacier, Sitka, Skagway, and Taku Inlet. Subjects represented include the St. Michael's Russian Orthodox Church in Sitka, pulp mills, glaciers, native peoples, and Indian carvings, totems, and graves.

Series 4, research files concerning the history of theatre in Anchorage, contains a file for Mary Lou Wilson of the Elmendorf  Theatre Guild with 5 black and white and 6 color prints.

The collection consists of the tourist photograph album and related papers of a tourist from Maine who visited the American Southwest, West and Alaska in 1938. The collection contains: 85 original black and white prints and 26 black and white and color photo post cards. Subjects of the original photographs include: friends and traveling companions; Grand Canyon, Yosemite and Mount Rainier national parks; Ketchikan; Valdez; Wrangell; and scenes along the Canadian National Railway in the Canadian Rockies. This collection consists of records concerning Bruce Staser's work as Director of Civil Defense and his work as Executive Assistant to Mayor Sullivan. Included among the papers in the collection are 6 color photographs of the town of Girdwood and various buildings at Monarch Mine, Crow Creek (1956).

This collection consists of copies of original records in the possession of the Harry I. Staser family. Included among the copied papers are six photograph albums. In addition, there are over 140 black and white prints and negatives copied from the original photographs in six family albums. The photographs concern the Staser and Thies families, especially Harry I. Staser, Bruce Staser, and Betty Jo Thies Staser. They depict early Anchorage and Fairbanks buildings, vehicles, freighting by sled, and school life at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

GORDON R. STERUD (1914-1989). World War II Photograph Album; 1941-1942. .2 cu. ft. List.
The collection consists of the photograph album of a 201st Infantry Regiment soldier who served at Fort Greely in Kodiak. The album contains 73 black and white photographs. There are also 40 copy negatives of selected images. Subjects include: fellow soldiers; training at Camp Roberts, California; Fort Lawton, Washington; transport aboard the S.S. Chirikof from Seattle to Seward; the city of Kodiak; a field training exercise at Buskin Lake on Kodiak in the spring of 1942; Fort Greely; and troop competitions and ceremonies for the Kodiak Olympics in July 1942.

The collection consists of the Alaska related papers and photographs of a woman who was a roving reporter for the Alaska Raillroad. The collection contains 170 black and white prints, 133 photo post cards, and 103 black and white preservation copy negatives of selected images. Subjects include: the Alaska Railroad (Alaskan Engineering Commission photographs); Helen Steven's visit to Southeast Alaska for an N.E.A. Convention in Skagway (1939); Metlakatla and the Metlakatla Christian Church; and other miscellaneous Alaskan subjects.

The collection consists of the album and related papers of a U. S. Army Corps of Engineers soldier who served at Yakutat Landing Field from 1940 to 1944. The collection contains an album with 199 original black and white prints, 2 original color prints, and 11 black and white photo post cards; black and white panoramas of the Mount St. Elias Range from Yakutat, and Unalaska Village; and 52 black and white preservation copy negatives of selected image. Subjects include: Stoars and fellow U. S. Army Corps of Engineers soldiers of the 807th Engineer Battalion and 28th Engineer Battalion, as well as soldiers of the 4th Infantry Regiment, at Yakutat Landing Field, and Stoars' family and relatives in Oregon and California (1937-1963).

The collection consists of the album of a member of the Post Signal Staff stationed at Fort Richardson. The collection contain 60 original black and white prints. Subjects include: Sergeant Stokes and fellow soldiers at Fort Richardson and Anchorage; buildings on Fort Richardson ; 4th Avenue in Anchorage; the USO building and houses in Anchorage; Alaska Defense Command commander General Simon B. Buckner at his desk; snow plows clearing snow from the landing strip; a sled dog team outside the McKinley Park Hotel; and scenery. Several of Stokes' fellow soldiers are identified by name.

HELENE STOLL (b. 1895). Photographs; n.d., 1899, 1900. .1 cu. ft. List.
This collection consists of 7 black and white photographs which had been owned by Helene Stoll. Six relate to Dawson in 1899 and 1900. Five of these are photographs by Larss and Duclos and 1 one is by H.J. Goetz. Another by Winter and Pond is unidentified. The Goetz photo is a panoramic view of Dawson from across the river. The Larss and Duclos pictures depict groups of people, a Fourth of July scene, and a fire damaged building. In addition, there are 7 conservation copy negatives for these photographs.

This collection consists of the papers of Josette and William Stoll. William Stoll, a mining engineer, was the last head of the Alaska Pacific Consolidated Mining Company which operated Independence Mine. Series 3, Photographs, contains about 99 prints, 91 contact prints, and 236 negatives. These relate to Independence Mine and the Stoll Family.

The collection consists of the papers and photographs of a naval aviator and Alaskan bush pilot. The collection contains: 12 black and white prints; 2 color prints; and one black and white negative. Subjects include: Stolz and fellow soldiers during training and other service in the U. S. Navy during World War II; Stolz as an officer in the U. S. Naval Reserve; and Stolz beside his airplane in Anchorage.

The collection consists of the papers and photographs of the David and Jenny Strandberg Family, an Alaskan mining family. The family photographs and color slides (over 500 photographs, 256 color slides) consist of family photo albums; groups of photos of mining areas including Dawson, Yukon Territory, Ester Creek, Flat and Iditarod, Pass Creek, Cripple Creek, Colorado Creek, and Clara Creek near Goodnews; miscellaneous photos and portraits of Strandberg family members; miscellaneous photographs of the Anchorage area and various Yukon Territorey and Alaska photo post cards; and William Strandberg's color slides including those from the mining areas of Manley Hot Springs and Indian River near Hughes on the Koyukuk River. The collection consists of records concerning Harold Strandberg's work as Anchorage Port Commissioner, as a state representative, and as a mining engineer. The collection is divided into three parts: Anchorage Port Commission records; legislative papers; and mining, engineering, and personal papers. The subject files in the Anchorage Port Commission records include construction reports which contain 59 black and white photos of the work. Series 4, Visual Materials, includes 18 black and white photographs of the Strandberg family and of mining operations in Alaska.

BENJAMIN B. TALLEY (1903-1998). Papers; 1930-1993. 20 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection contains papers relating to the military career of Brig. Gen. Benjamin B. Talley. Among the papers are photographs concerning Talley's activities with the Army Corps of Engineers in Alaska before and during World War II, and other topics. Part One, Series 5, contains 9 photos relating to the presentation of a statue of Buddha. Part Two, Series 2 (22 images), 5 (24 images), and 8 (116 images), contain photos relative to family and friends, Talley's political campaign for a seat in Congress in Oklahoma, politics, and to to Corps of Engineers (COE) after his retirement. Part 7 of the collection contains prints and/or copy negatives for 315 unique images. The subjects in the latter include stratospheric balloon flights, family, and his pre-war service in the COE, Alaska and World War II, and his post World War II activities. There is also a group of photos relating to the Gold Rush (1898-1901).

The collection consists of the tourist scrapbook of Arabella and Raymond H. Taylor of Conastota, New York. The scrapbook contains one black and white and 64 color prints. The black and white print is a group photo of the tour participants. The color photographs include those of Yellowstone National Park, Multnomah Falls, Bonneville Dam, Mount Rainier National Park, the White Pass and Yukon Route Railway, the Inside Passage, and Chateau Lake Louise.

The collection consists of the papers of a soldier who served in the U. S. Army at Amchitka. The collection contains: 48 black and white and 5 color photographs, along with 7 preservation copy negatives of selected images. Thirty-three of the photos are from Thomason's service during the war and are of Thomason and fellow soldiers on Amchitka, an anti-aircraft gun, a ship's deck, scenery, and pets. Twenty are of family and friends.

This collection contains 62 original black and white photographs which are primarily scenes of southeastern and southcentral Alaska. A number are signed Thurston or C.M.T. or are in the same handwriting. They depict a trip on the S.S. Bertha, mines (Beatson's Mine and the Elmar Mine), towns and forts (Ft. Liscum, Orca, Cordova, Seldovia, Valdez, and Yakutat), and locations (St. Augustine Volcano and Broad Pass).

The collection consists of two albums containing 138 historic Alaskan postcards (color and black and white) collected by Sheri Trask, as well as a copy of the collection. The post cards show Alaskan natives, totem poles, glaciers, ships and boats, buildings, scenery, and towns and villages. Among the towns and villages shown are: Wrangell, Tanana, Skagway, Seward, LaTouche, Juneau, Ketchikan, Metlakatla, Haines, Nenana, and Valdez.

The collection consists of papers, photographs and newspapers of a construction company employee. The collection contains: 78 original black and white prints; 10 black and white commercial tourist prints of the Alaska Highway (W.I.B. Photos); 10 black and white commercial tourist prints of Yukon Territory scenes ; 5 black and white prints of a rotary railroad snow plow at work; two black and white photo post cards of the Yukon River at Whitehorse and the lobby of the Athabasca Hotel in Jasper, Alberta; and a lithograph of a Dawson dance hall scene. Subjects of the original prints include: construction workers, camps, vehicles and equipment; wildlife; dog teams; and highway scenery.

The collection consists of the papers and photographs of a member of the U.S. Army Signal Corps and Alaska Communications System during World War II. The 581 photographs include Alaska views of the Alaska Railroad, Seward, Moose Pass, Portage Glacier, Girdwood, Cook Inlet, Eklutna, Palmer and the Matanuska Colony, McKinley National Park, Nenana, Fairbanks, Circle Hot Springs, and Circle City. Many of the photographs concern signal corps crews erecting telephone poles and stringing wires along the Alaska Railroad.

The collection consists of a xerographic copy of a report on the activities of the Alaska Railroad during World War II, written in 1945. The report includes freight tonnage and revenue statistics, as well as photographs of railroad facilities, trains, and activities. There is also a set of 15 black and white negatives and contact prints made from the photographs in the report.

The collection consists of the first volume of a set of photographic albums prepared by the National Park Service as part of the Alaska Highway Land Planning Survey. The collection consists of contact print sheets of pages from a unit photograph album of the Eleventh Fighter Squadron. The collection contains five photographic contact print sheets taken of five different album pages comprised of 92 different photographs. The sheet are of the squadron's new day room, an officer's club party, various unit personnel, a transportation unit, interior views, and pilots.

This collection contains a scrapbook compiled by Lt. Com. A. J. Vance during his service on the USS Mississippi. The scrapbook includes 175 black and white photo prints of military personnel, civilians, scenery, city views, and buildings in ports in the Pacific. Also, there four 4x5 copy negatives of selected prints in the collection.

The collection consists of the World War II era photographs album of Al Verbauen, a soldier with the 138th Infantry Regiment stationed at Adak Army Airfield. The collection contains 211 black and white photographic prints and 18 copy negatives, subjects of which include an unidentified training base, fellow soldiers, scenes at Adak Army Airfield and Adak Island, portraits of Al Verbauen, and Alaskan tourist prints.

The collection consists of the contents of a Sacramento couple's album concerning their 1966 trip to Western Canada and Alaska. The collection contains 78 color prints and 17 Alaskan color photo post cards. Subjects include: the Versers camping and fishing, campgrounds, cities, highways, ferries, ports, the White Pass and Yukon Railway, and various scenery. Cities depicted include: Whitehorse, Anchorage, Seward, Glennallen, Dawson , Skagway, Wrangell, and Vancouver . Highways depicted include the Alaska, Glenn, Richardson, Steese, Seward and Taylor.

The collection consists of military newspapers and photographs primarily from Alfred Virag's period of service with the military in Alaska. The 5 photographs in the collection show the 250th Coast Artillery Band, Captain Virag, General Buckner's "Yatch" off Kodiak, and other subjects.

This collection consists of 31 matted color photographs which depict scenes from the travel in Alaska of photographer and psychiatrist, Dr. Peter Vogel. They include scenes of Ketchikan, Juneau, Fairbanks, and Circle City. Among the subjects represented are buildings, scenery, fish wheels, mining and urban settings. The photographs have been exhibited by Dr. Vogel on several occasions.

The collection contains a photograph album which was given to Julia Weber by Dorothy Boche after Boche inherited the album from her family. The album contains 109 black and white photographs and several photo postcards (primarily 1890-1900). They depict Alaskan villages; totems, graveyards, and chiefs; boats; houses; street scenes; and various people. The towns and villages include Afognak, Calder Bay, Cat Island, Chickman River, Dyea, Homer, Howkan, Karta Bay, Kasaan, Ketchikan, Klawok, Kodiak, Mary Island, Shakan, Stikine River, Tuxekan, Valdez, and Wrangell.

The collection consists of the photograph album of a nurse who worked at the Bishop Rowe Hospital in Ketchikan. The collection contains 194 original black and white prints and six photo post cards (five black and white and one color). Subjects of the photographs include: Ketchikan area scenery; fellow medical staff at the Bishop Rowe Hospital; the ship MS Hygiene; and groups of nurses. Subjects of the photo post cards include local scenes of Ketchikan and Juneau.

This collection consists of Harris M. Whiting's papers and photographs concerning Alaska and his career as a managing engineer for construction of military facilities in Alaska. Series 1 contains 10 prints. Series 4 contains 232 black and white prints, 26 color prints, and 36 copy negatives. The photographs include views of Sitka, Juneau, Kodiak, Attu, Adak, Cape Sarichef on Unimak Island, Dutch Harbor, and Unalaska. Specific facilities pictured include Sitka Naval Air Station, U.S. Coast Guard light houses and other buildings at Cape Sarichef and Scotch Cap on Unimak Island, and the U.S. Naval Station, Adak.

Whitney and other miners; Crow Creek area mines; Jewel Mill buildings and mill machinery; hydraulic mining; Girdwood buildings; pack horses, sleds, and a tractor; black bear cubs; mountain and brown bear kills; and the city hall and I.O.O.F. buildings in Seward.

Scrapbook dealing with a soldier's service with the 404th Bombardment Group of the 11th Air Force in the Aleutians during World War II. The scrapbook contains 123 black and white photographs.

This collection contains a group of photographs documenting the construction of the Alaska Highway in the 1940s. The collection includes 119 black and white prints, and 12 black and white photo-postcards, for a total of 131 images.

The collection consists of U.S. Army Air Corps officer Hollis C. Willey's World War II era scrapbook including photographs and papers. The collection contains 80 black and white and 2 color original photographic prints. Subjects of the prints include Hillis Willey and fellow officers and enlisted men serving in Alaska; an officer's quarters at Ladd Field; Fairbanks area scenery, animals, and aircraft; a May 30, 1943, military parade in Fairbanks; and scenes from a trip to Circle City.

The collection consists of the family photograph album of Alaska Railroad engineer Elmer Williams. The collection contains 286 black and white prints, 12 color prints, and 22 black and white copy negatives. Subjects of the photographs include family and friends, camping trips, parties, railroad personnel, scenes along the Alaska Railroad, train locomotives, and railroad depots and other buildings. Alaska locations depicted include Anchorage, Fairbanks, Curry, Whittier, and Bear Valley.

The collection consists of the photographs of a Fairbanks couple involved in construction of 26-Mile airbase, now known as Eielson Air Force Base. Subjects of the 56 black and white prints include scenes along the Steese and Richardson Highways, and construction at 26-Mile airbase. There are 21 black and white 4 X 5 copy negatives.

The collection consists of unit photographs of a U. S. Army Air Corp photographer. The collection consists of 33 black and white prints, mounted on album pages, of members of the Second Photographic Mapping Squadron, U. S. Army Air Corps, which mapped Alaska in 1939.

This collection consists of the personal papers of two Alaskan journalists and free-lance writers. Part 3 of the collection, photographs and slides, contains over 25,000 images. It is divided into eight different series: Alaska and Western Canada photographs by place name; Alaska and Western Canada photographs by subject; Alaska Earthquake photographs of Anchorage; travel and personal photographs; Lyman Woodman's 35mm black and white family photograph negatives; Alaska and Western Canada slides by place names; Alaska and Western Canada sides by subject; and travel slides. The photographs and slides relate to their work as journalists and writers, as well as their family and travels.

ALICE WRAN (1894-1972). Photograph Album; 1917-1948. .2 cu. ft. List.
The collection consists of the photograph album of Alice Wran, married to Klery Creek gold miner, Warren Wran. The collection contains the original 88-page album with 251 black and white photographs, along with 48 copy negatives. Subjects include friends and family in Oregon, Washington, California, Colorado, Wyoming, Alabama, Kentucky, and British Columbia. Photographs from Alaska primarily document placer gold mining operations at Klery and Jack Creeks north of Kiana, and at Candle.

MASTER SERGEANT WRIGHT. World War II Photograph Albums; 1938, 1942-1945. .25 cu. ft.
The collection consists of two albums created by a member of the 39th Air Depot Group. The collection contains: 361 original black and white prints and 1 color 35mm slide (Album 1: 188 prints and 1 color slide; Album 2: 173 prints); and 44 black and white preservation copy negatives of selected images. Subjects include: Wright and fellow soldiers and officers of the 39th Air Depot Group at Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Mt. McKinley National Park, the Aleutian Islands, and Muroc Army Air Field, California; Wright and various family members; USO performers in Anchorage; Downtown Anchorage; and an officers' party for the unit held in 1943.

JAMES A. YOST (1920-1985). World War II Photograph Album; ca. 1943-1944. .2 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the album and related papers of a U. S. Navy sailor who served at Attu Island. The album contains: 105 original black and white prints and two xerographic copies of album pages with seven different photographs of James Yost singly and with other seamen. Subjectss include scenes on or around Attu Island: tug boats, ships, steamships and docks; island scenery; Holtz Bay and Little Falls battle cemeteries; and interpretive signs for battle sites and casualties. The album also contains prints of the Akutan Zero and the Japanese bombing of Dutch Harbor.

WALTER H. ZIEGLER. World War II Letters and Photographs; 1943-1946. .1 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the photographs of U. S. Army captain who served with the 1788th Engineers Base Depot Company at Adak Army Air Field. The collection contains eight black and white prints. Subjects include: Walter Ziegler in uniform (5 different); Ziegler in a graduation cap and gown; a collection of native artifacts; and a group of three women and one man in front of Rockefeller Plaza in New York City.

WAYNE C. ZIMMERMAN. World War II Papers; 1942-1944. .1 cu. ft.
The collection consists of papers concerning the 17th Infantry Regiment commander. It contains a black and white print with seven different images of soldiers from the Battle of Attu.
