ADA AND OLIA. Tourist Scrapbook; 1947. .5 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the scrapbook of Texas travel companions Ada and Olia from their automobile trip to Alaska. The collection contains: 142 original black and white prints; 52 black and white and color photo post cards; and 28 small black and white commercial tourist prints. Subjects of the original photographs include: friends and relatives; Black Hills, South Dakota; Fort Peck Dam, Montana; Jasper National Park, Alberta; Alert Bay, Ocean Falls, Vancouver, Victoria, and Big Bend Highway, British Columbia; Ketchikan, Alaska; Cle Elum, Washington; Crater Lake, Oregon; and Catalina Island, California.

ALBERT S. AIKEN (1917-2000). World War II Papers; 1940-1945, 1991. .5 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the World War II era and related papers of fighter pilot Albert S. Aiken. The collection contains: 68 black and white photographs from his scrapbook from service in the Aleutian Islands. Subjects of the photographs include: fellow soldiers, aircraft, landing fields, buildings, and tents. They were taken on Amchitka, Adak, and Cold Bay.

This collection consists of material gathered by Aurora Films for the production of "Alaska at War." Photographs are located in Series 5, which contains 385 prints relating to Adak, Attu, Kiska, Amchitka, Umnak, aircraft, the Alaska Railroad, Aleut Internment, Canadians, Gen. Buckner, the Battle of the Komandorskies, Lend Lease, and various other places in Alaska.

"ALASKA AT WAR" SYMPOSIUM. Records; 1992-1996. 4 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection contains the records of the international conference on World War II in the Pacific Northwest which was sponsored by the Alaska at War organization, a nonprofit association. Among the records of the meeting are 74 prints and 46 slides dealing with different aspects of the war.

ALASKA BLACK CAUCUS, INC. Records; 1975-1993. 12.45 cu. ft. Inventory.
The records in the collection document the history and operation of the Alaska Black Caucus. There are 52 photographs in Series 10, Photo, Program, and Clipping Albums (1975-1986). In addition, there are 492 prints, negatives, and contact print sheets in Series 14, Visual Materials.

ALASKA CENTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, INC. Records; 1971-1992. 100 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of records relating to the operation, management, and activities of the Alaska Center for the Environment. Photographs can be found in in various files among several series. Part I, series 5 and 6 contain 147 prints and 102 negatives. Part II, Series 1 to 3, contains 38 prints and 12 negatives. These relate to the activities and interests of the organization.

This collection contains Helen Beirne's files relating the to Alaska Crippled Children's Association. Series five contains photographic images of ACCA activities and includes 57 negatives, 20 prints, and 5 slides.

This collection consists of administrative and operational records documenting the history of the Alaska Festival of Music. Photographs are located in Series 6, Scrapbooks, and in Series 8, Photographs. The collection contains over 1,000 photographs.

The collection consists of the records of the Alaska Health Project and its activities. Among the records, there are 54 prints and slides primarily relating to the organization's activities and to oil spill cleanup work.

ALASKA HISTORICAL SOCIETY. Records; 1967-1992. 12 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of records relating to the administration and activities of the Alaska Historical Society. Photographs are located in Series 12 relating to Alaska History articles, and Series 15, Photographs and Slides. The former contains 20 prints and negatives relating to an article in Vol. 11. The latter contains 82 prints, 336 negatives, 13 contact print sheets, and 102 slides primarily relating to the organization's meetings.

The collection consists of records documenting the history and operation of Alaska Hotel Properties, Inc. and the individual hotels within the corporation. The collection contains 17 prints, 3 transparencies, and 6 slides relating to the Anchorage Travelodge.

The collection consists of Alaska Earthquake related materials collected from various sources and individuals by the Alaska Methodist University Library. The collection contains 36 black and white photographs taken by Yule Chaffin and relating to earthquake and tidal wave damage at the city of Kodiak, Afognak Island, and Woody Island.

ALASKA PACIFIC CONSOLIDATED MINING CO. INDEPENDENCE MINE. Records; ca. 1930-1987. 63 cu. ft. Inventory and Series List.
Series 1 of Part III of the records of Alaska Pacific Consolidated Mining Company contains 94 slides depicting the flora in the Independence Mine area. Series 3 of Part III (Historic Files and Photographs acquired from the State of Alaska, Division of Parks) contains over 5,000 photographs, negatives, and slides showing Independence Mine and other mines in the Willow Creek Mining District, mining activities and personnel at Independence Mine, renovation activities, photos taken by miners, and other subjects. Series 4 of Part III contains over 760 negatives from fifteen personal collections belonging to individuals associated with Independence Mine.

The collection consists of records concerning the administration, membership, and activities of the Alaska Press Women. Series 10 consists of scrapbooks which contain newspaper clippings, brochures, photographs, and other materials concerning the organization and its members. In the various scrapbooks, there are 100 prints relating to members and activities of the organization.

ALASKA REPERTORY THEATRE, INC. Records; 1976-1989. 70 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection contains records documenting the history and operation of the Alaska Repertory Theatre, Inc. There are seventeen series. Series 15, Photographs, contains over 3600 mounted and unmounted photographs (primarily black and white); these depict productions, casts, production staff, fund raising, tours and other matters and events. Series 16, Show Files, contains over 900 contact print sheets (primarily from 35mm black and white negatives), 23,000 negatives (primarily 35mm black and white film), and 14,000 slides (primarily color). The subjects include cast members, productions, fund raising, community activities, shop work, and set construction.

This collection contains records and files of the Alaska State AFL-CIO. Included in Series 7, Historical files, are 3 photographs. They relate to the Douglas Island Mineworkers Local 109 (1907), and Alaska Labor Union No. 1 (1911).

ALASKA VALUATION SERVICE, INC. Records; 1969-1979. 79 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection primarily consists of the real estate property evaluation files (approximately 10,000) of Alaska Valuation Services, Inc. for the years 1969-1979. Each file contains the name of the property owner, the address of the property, the property evaluation, floor plans, and in some cases, views (prints and/or negatives) of the property. The collection contains over 10,000 prints or negatives (probably much more). In order to protect the confidentiality of the subjects involved, the department does not maintain a list of property owners or property addresses.

ALASKA WOMEN'S ORAL HISTORY PROJECT. Oral History Tapes and Papers; 1965-1982. 1.7 cu. ft. Published guide; Inventory.
Among the records of the Alaska Women's Oral History Project are about 30 photographs of the subjects of the interviews. They are located in the interview files.

C. EARL ALBRECHT (1905-1997). Papers; 1905-1997. 11 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of papers and publications documenting Dr. C. Earl Albrecht's career in medicine and public health administration, primarily in Alaska. It is divided into nine parts. Part I, Visual Materials, contains 491 prints (b&w, color, postcard); 19 filmstrips consisting of 1441 black and white images; and 49 color slides. Subject matter of the visual materials include the Matanuska Colony, the 183rd Station Hospital at Fort Richardson during World War II, Albrecht's tenure as commissioner of health in Alaska, the University of Alaska Board of Regents, Albrecht's tenures as Assistant Director of the Ohio Department of Mental Hygiene and Correction and as Deputy Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and international circumpolar health meetings.

JOHN W. ALBRIGHT. World War II Photograph Album; ca. 1942-1944. .25 cu. ft.
The collection consists of an album of photographs relating to Eleventh Air Force soldier John W. Albright's service during World War II. The collection includes 330 black and white photographs. Subjects of the photographs include: soldiers and barracks at Drew Field; A cross-country train trip from Florida to Washington through St. Louis, Missouri, and St. Paul, Minnesota; Camp Murray; an Alaskan Defense Command USO show, probably at Camp Murray or Fort Lewis, Washington; soldiers, buildings, a runway, and aircraft at Elmendorf Field on Fort Richardson, including the Eleventh Air Force's NCO club, the Kashim; downtown Anchorage; soldiers, buildings, airfields, aircraft, vehicles, machinery, and scenery at Adak Army Airfield. There are also 44 black and white 4 X 5 copy negatives.

NIKEFOR ALEXAN (b. 1900). Stories and Photograph; 1938, ca. 1957. .1 cu. ft. List.
The collection contains stories by Nikefor Alexan on the history and folklore of the native peoples of the village of Tyonek and the Cook Inlet/Knik Region of Alaska. There is also 1 photograph (b&w) of Simeon Chickalusian, Sixth Chief and Governor of Tyonek, with his wife, dated 1938.

ALLIANCE FOR OPTIONS IN EDUCATION. Records; 1973-1978. 1 cu. ft. Inventory.
The Alliance for Options in Education was a citizens' organization which supported the introduction of a flexible public school system that would offer diverse methods of education delivery at elementary and secondary levels. This collection consists of organization records in an alphabetical subject file. Among the files are 33 color slides which relate to the Chugach Optional School.

The scrapbook includes some photographs relating to the Branch's activities.

AMERICAN FEDERATION OF LABOR. SIXTY-FIRST ANNUAL CONVENTION. Claude O’Reilly Convention Scrapbook; September-October, 1941. .4 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the contents of a scrapbook regarding the American Federation of Labor annual convention held in Senator Auditorium in Seattle, Washington. It contains twenty black and white photographs of scenes of convention proceedings, delegates touring the Government Locks in Seattle (October 8), a dinner honoring the A.F.L. Executive Council at the Olympic Hotel (October 6), and a Conference of Teamsters banquet (October 3).

This collection consists of a photograph album of AMNH's Alaska-Yukon Expedition of 1936. The album contains 94 black and white photographs and 56 copy negatives of selected photographs. The subjects of the photographs include the members of the expedition collectively and individually, riverboats on which the party traveled, geologic formations, Anchorage, Dawson, Fairbanks, Palmer, Skagway, the Yukon River, Healy Creek, Thanksgiving Creek, and various individuals encountered along the way.

The collection contains records relating to the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce (1946-1984). It is divided into ten series. Series 4, Subject file, contains 69 prints and 2 negatives. Series 5, Special Events, contains 5 prints. These relate to the city and to various events.

The collection consists of the records and scrapbooks of the Anchorage Garden Club. The scrapbooks and various files contain over 3500 prints relating to and depicting the club's activities.

The collection consists of records relating to the administration, membership, and activities of the Anchorage Ski Club. Series 6 contains 62 prints relating to the club's ski trips and other activities (1941-1944).

ANCHORAGE SYMPHONY LEAGUE. Records; 1946-1992. 12 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of records of the Anchorage Symphony League as well as records of the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra, the Anchorage Chamber Symphony, and the Anchorage Symphony String Quartet. Photographs can be found in Series 2, History, and Series 7, Photographs. The seventeen scrapbooks (Series 2) contain 325 prints which document the history and activities of the Anchorage Symphony League and the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra. Series 7 contains 121 prints, negatives, and slides.

This collection contains the records of the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra. Among the various files are 7 prints and 6 slides primarily relating to guest artists.

CLARENCE LEROY ANDREWS (1862-1948). Papers; 1890-1942. 1 cu. ft. 2 reels, microfilm. Inventory.
This collection contains the papers of Clarence L. Andrews, U.S. Customs officer in Alaska, author, and advocate of Eskimo rights. The collection is divided into three parts. The Strong/Quam Acquisition contains 91 original black and white photograph negatives including glass plate negatives. In addition, there are contact prints and copy negatives. They include pictures of Andrews; Eagle and the Forty Mile area; the Arctic, Eskimos, and Kivalina; Sitka and Southeast Alaska; family members; documents relating to the Lomen Reindeer issue; wildflowers and other subjects. The third part of the collection consists of contact prints and negatives copied from 114 glass lantern slides. Included are pictures of natives, their activities, villages, and animals; locations depicted include St. Lawrence Island, St. Michael, and Point Barrow.

ANCHORAGE WATERWAYS COUNCIL. Records; 1979-1991. 1 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of the chronological files of the Anchorage Waterways Council as well as other related materials concerning waterways in Anchorage. Among the organization records are 7 photographs from a 1989 council photo contest display at the Loussac Library.

The collection consists of the original tourist photographs of Gene and Marie Anderson, from their trip to Western Canada and Alaska in 1927. The collection contains 80 black and white prints depicting the couple's trip, including stops in Wrangell, Sitka, Juneau, Atlin, Whitehorse, Dawson, Anchorage, Cantwell, Mt. McKinley National Park, Fairbanks, Circle, Rampart and Fort Yukon.

This collection consists of 37 glass plate black and white negatives which depict people and scenes in the Yukon Territory, Canada. Most of the pictures relate to Dawson and its environs. Included are views of the public school, St. Mary's Hospital, Bank of Commerce, D.A.A.A. Building, Agilsie Bridge, Klondike Railroad Bridge, White Pass Stage, the Yukon and Klondike rivers, gold dredges, river ice, various people including Otto Kintz, and several steamboats including the Lightning, Monarch, and Pauline.

This collection contains 27 black and white prints and negatives related to Alaska and the Yukon Territory in the late 1890s and early 1900s. Included are views of miners and mining camps, railroads, vehicles, buildings, and towns. The scenes include Ketchikan, Sitka, Dawson, Fairbanks, Skagway, and Chilkoot Pass.

This collection contains 129 black and white photograph contact prints which primarily depict scenes of interior Alaska (ca. 1900). Included are views of rivers, camps, cabins, dog sled teams, a town (St. Michael), and several steamboats (Aurora, Sunflower, Jennie M. and Research - ?). The collection is accompanied by comments written by Robert DeArmond. The numbers on his list do not exactly coincide with all the photo numbers in the collection.

This collection contains 43 black and white prints and six copy negatives. Locations depicted include: the Inland Passage, Prince William Sound, Cordova Harbor, Fort Liscum (Valdez), Iliamna Bay (Cook Inlet), AC Point, Dutton Ledge, Lake Iliamna, Roadhouse Bay, Lake Clark, Tanalian Point, Portage Creek, and Bonanza Creek (a tributary of the Mulchatna River). Ships depicted include the S.S. Admiral Sampson of the Alaska Pacific Steamship Company, and the wreck of the S. S. Olympia.

This collection consists of the photograph album of a soldier stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage. The collection contains 416 black and white photographs from the album and 41 copy negatives of selected images. Subjects of the photographs include: family and friends; fellow soldiers at work and recreating ; Fort Richardson; downtown Anchorage; ice in Cook Inlet; the USO in Anchorage; and area scenery.

The collection consists of the album of an enlisted soldier who served at Fort Richardson and Fort Ray in Alaska. The album contains 411 black and white prints. Subjects include: quartermaster soldiers; a baseball game played at an Anchorage baseball field; Mount McKinley National Park; buildings at Fort Richardson; soldiers and scenery in and around Fort Ray and Sitka; 351st Quartermaster Company soldiers in formation; softball games; workers at the quartermaster laundry; and the Trading Post at the Matanuska Colony in Palmer.

The collection consists of the album of an aircraft mechanic who served at Ladd Field, Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1948. The album contains 145 black and white prints. Subjects of the photographs include: airmen and aircraft at Ladd Field in Fairbanks; sled dog races, a parade, and a beauty contest during the winter carnival in Fairbanks; a visit to Ladd field from General Major Forslev of Denmark; construction of airfield buildings; airmen and aircraft at Great Falls Air Force Base in Montana; and airmen and aircraft at an airfield in Edmonton, Alberta.

The collection consists of the photographs of a soldier who served at Adak in 1948. The collection contains 54 black and white prints. Subjects include: soldiers at the base on Adak Island; the sign for the 528th Engineers Heavy Shop Company and the 36th Engineers Battalion on Adak; the sign for the 97th Ordnance Service Company on Adak; and soldiers at a U. S. Army training base for Company A of the 10th Infantry Regiment.

This collection contains one black and white and 61 Kodacolor prints from an Eastern U.S. woman's group tour to Alaska in late August to mid September 1952. Major subjects of the photographs include the M.S. Chilcotin on the Inland Passage, the White Pass and Yukon Railroad, the Canadian Rockies, Mount Rainier, and Yellowstone National Park.

ANONYMOUS CIVILIAN CONSTRUCTION WORKER. Photograph Album; 1948-1950. .1 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the photograph album of a civilian construction worker who was employed at military sites on Adak, Kodiak, and Afognak Islands in 1948-1949. The collection contains 56 black and white prints and 24 color prints. Subjects include: the construction worker with fellow workers on Adak, Kodiak, and Afognak Islands; heavy equipment, including tractors, graders, snowplows, and other road or airfield building machinery; and island scenery.

ANONYMOUS CORPS OF ENGINEERS SOLDIER. Alaska Highway Construction Photographs; n.d., 1942-1943. .1 cu. ft.
This collection consists of 66 photographs taken by an unknown soldier in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during construction of the Alaska Highway in British Columbia and the Yukon Territory. The photographs show construction camps and bridge construction, and equipment used in the construction of the highway. Several of the photographs show the construction of bridges over the Liard River and Nisutlin Bay. There are also 11 black and white 4x5 copy negatives.

The collection consists of the photographs of cook with the 75th Coast Artillery (AA), Battery G, stationed at Fort Richardson during World War II. There are 190 black and white prints and 20 selected copy negatives. Subjects of the photographs include military training, fellow soldiers and cooks, scenery, and U.S. Army buildings and installations. Locations of the photographs include Fort Richardson, Palmer, Wasilla, Seward, and scenes along the Alaska Railroad between Seward and Anchorage.

The collection consists of the album of an Emards Cannery employee.. The album contains: 61 original black and white prints; 7 black and white professional prints of workers and machinery inside Emards Cannery; 4 black and white photo post cards; 18 professional quality black and white prints; and 45 black and white preservation copy negatives of selected images. Subjects include: Emards Cannery and employees; the Fourth of July parade in Downtown Anchorage; Independence Mine; and Mt. McKinley National Park.

The collection consists of ten prints along with 10 presrvation copy negatives of a small party of English sportsmen on a fishing trip aboard the boat Pacific in Southeast Alaska.

ANONYMOUS JAPANESE SAILOR. World War II Photographs and Cigarette Packet; ca. 1942-1945. .1 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the World War II era photographs and cigarette packet of a Japanese sailor who served in the Aleutians. The collection contains 19 black and white prints. Eleven of the prints are snapshots of Japanese soldiers on an Aleutian Island (Attu or Kiska) during winter.

The collection consists of an album containing commercial tourist photographs compiled by a tourist who took a steamship cruise to Southeast Alaska. The collection contains: 177 black and white tourist prints; 40 color tourist prints; one back and white print of a steamship in port at Sitka; a black and white photo portrait of a young woman taken by Morton Studio of Providence, Rhode Island; and a small photo portrait of two men and two women.

The collection consists of 50 black and white prints. Forty-eight are Signal Corps photos of training at the school at Big Delta. Two are are personal photos taken of four different soldiers at Camp Bullis, some of whom were members of the Chemical Section, 301st Logistical Command. There are also selected copy negatives of 35 images.

The collection consists of the photographs of a member of the U. S. Coast Guard Women's Reserve stationed at Ketchikan in 1944-1945. The collection contains 56 black and white prints. Most are of the women reservists and male coast guard members at their quarters and recreating near Ketchikan.

The collection consists of the album of a United States Navy seaman stationed at Dutch Harbor. The collection contains: 53 original black and white prints and one color print from the album; 23 Alaska tourist prints from the album, primarily of Unalaska and Dutch Harbor; 58 loose original black and white prints; and 2 original 35mm negatives. Subjects of the photographs include: family and friends, fellow soldiers, and buildings and scenery around Dutch Harbor and Amaknak Island.

This collection consists of a photograph album created by a sailor stationed in the Radio City section of the United States Naval Station, Adak Island. Included in the collection are 103 black and white photo prints depicting sailors, women, buildings, and scenery. The collection also contains a description of the flora and fauna present on and around Adak, and a copy of the Adak Daily Sun, Official Kodak Bear Supplement, (March 1952), and a xerographic copy of the album.

ANONYMOUS UNITED STATES AIRMAN. Slides; 1966-1967, 1974. .2 cu. ft.
This collection consists of 400 different 35mm color photographic slides taken by a U.S. Air Force non-commissioned officer during his tours of duty in Vietnam (1966-1967), and Alaska (1974). The first 200 slides are from Vietnam. The last 200 slides are of Alaska, including the Cold Bay Air Force Site, Elmendorf Air Force Base, and Anchorage.

The collection consists of the personal photograph album of an Alaska Air Depot employee. The collection contains 394 black and white photographs and 21 selected copy negatives. The collection consists of the photograph album of Charles W. Arvidson, a construction worker on the Canol Pipeline project, plus additional loose photographs. Subjects from the album include construction camps along the Canol Road, welding crews working on the pipeline, a crew erecting telegraph poles, and area scenery. This collection consists of a scrapbook of clippings and photographs relating to Chester Barr's service in the U.S. Army, 131st Signal Radio Intelligence Company. The scrapbook, assembled by Barr's mother, includes 34 photographs of Barr and his Army co-workers, local buildings, and scenery. Also included in the collection are 22 copy negatives of selected photographs.

The collection primarily consists of papers which Neil Bassett accumulated during his career with the Bureau of Land Management. The collection consists of Norman and Edna Bassett's 59 (black and white) personal and tourist photographs. They were taken and collected on their trip to Alaska aboard the S.S. Dorothy Alexander, and on the White Pass and Yukon Railroad in 1932. Subjects of the photographs include Mendenhall Glacier, Taku Glacier, Juneau, Skagway, Haines, Sitka, Ketckikan, the S.S. Dorothy Alexander, and views from the White Pass and Yukon Railroad.

The collection consists of the papers and photographs of pipeline superintendent Charles V. Baxter. THOMAS W. BENHAM (d. 1914). Photographs; ca. 1880-1890. .65 cu. ft. List.
This collection consists of 73 photographs primarily relating to Alaska and to the U. S. Revenue Cutter Service once owned by Thomas W. Benham, an officer in the U. S. Revenue Marine. The collection is divided into photographs of individuals, ships and boats, and places. The individuals include officers who served on the Revenue Cutters Corwin, Rush, and Bear; passengers on the Corwin in 1885; and natives. The pictures of ships and boats include the cutters, and native kayaks and oomiaks. The places include Bogoslov Island, Icy Cape, King Island, Point Barrow, Point Hope, Port Clarence, St. Paul's Island, Siberia, Unalaska, and Wrangell. There is also a set of copy negatives and contact prints of the photos.

The collection consists of the papers and photograph album of a coastal artillery officer stationed near Sitka. The collection contains 311 black and white photographs from the album and 26 copy negatives of selected images. Locations where the photographs were taken include: Camp McQuaide, California (1940), Camp Callan, California (1941); Fort Ray, Fort Rousseau, and Sitka in Alaska (1941-1943); Kirby gun emplacement and dam; Kruzoff Island; St. Lazaria Island; Biorka Island; and Sound Island.

The collection consists of the contents of the World War II era scrapbook of a woman who served in the U.S. Army Airp Corps in Alaska. The collection contains eight black and white prints of Miriam Berger and her friends Evelyn Baker and Dorthea Trench in Anchorage.

The collection consists of the album and related papers of California motorcycle tourist Al E. Beyer. The album contains 254 color prints. Subjects include scenery, wildlife, motels, lodges, and various tourist attractions on his trip from California to Alaska and return.

The collection consists of the Glacier National Park and Southeast Alaska album of Pennsylvania tourist Edward M. Biddle. The album contains 192 black and white prints.

The collection consists of the application Mr. Binschus filed with the Western Defense Command Alaska Travel Control for permission to enter Alaska. The application includes a photograph of Mr. Binschus.

The collection consists of the photograph album of Miss B. Black, who apparently worked for the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) in Anchorage. The collection contains 227 black and white prints, and 27 selected copy negatives. Subjects include: B. Black and friends (snapshots and portraits); scenes along the Glenn and Steese highways, and the Alaska Railroad; Anchorage area scenes; a CAA party held at the Idle Hour Country Club in Spenard on October 13, 1944; CAA office scenes; and snow skiing and ice fishing scenes.

BLACK ARTS ASSOCIATION. Records; 1972-1980. 3 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection contains records documenting the history and operation of the Black Arts Association. It is divided into six series. Series 6, Photographs, contains 213 prints, 23 contact prints, and 428 negatives. The photographs contain views of various members, events, and productions of the organization.

RUTH E. BLANCHARD (1910-2004). Color Travel Slides; 1971, 1975. .2 cu. ft. List.
The collection consists of the original slides of a retired librarian who visited Alaska and Western Canada. The collection contains 495 color 35mm slides. The slides from 1971 are of subjects in Fairbanks and Anchorage. The slides from 1975 include subjects in Anchorage, Mount McKinley National Park, Fairbanks, Delta Junction, Dawson City, Whitehorse, Glacier Bay, Sitka, Vancouver, and Victoria.

WALTER BLUE (1909-1990). Papers; 1869-1975. 2.3 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of records gathered by Blue during the course of his activities as Army command historian for Alaska, and as a history professor at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. Series 6, Photographs, contains 107 prints and 11 negatives (b&w) relating to the history of the military in Alaska, various posts, and the U. S. Army Signal Corps.

WILLIAM K. BOARDMAN (1915-1993). Papers; ca. 1940-1985. 19.2 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection consists of personal and business papers of Alaska businessman and legislator, William Boardman. There are three series: Personal and Political Papers; Insurance Papers; and duplicate Papers. Among the personal papers in Sereis 1 are 491 prints and negatives primarily relating to Boardman's political activities.

GLENN H. BOWERSOX. Photographs and Papers; 1931-1939, 1941, 1954, 1990, 2004, 2005. .4 cu. ft. Photograph List.
The collection consists of the photographs and papers of a radio operator and purser who served on the motor ships Boxer and North Star in the 1930s. The collection contains: 158 black and white and two color photographs. Subjects of the photographs include: Bowersox and fellow officers and crew of the Boxer and North Star, the ships' passengers and visitors, coastal Alaska Native peoples, villages and towns, the trading schooner C.S. Holmes, and a large snowmobile used on Admiral Richard E. Byrd's Antarctic Expedition of 1939 to 1941.

WILLARD L. BOWMAN (1919-1975). Papers; 1952-1979. 1.8 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection consists of personal papers (primarily political) of Willard L. Bowman and copies of records from the Alaska State Commission on Human Rights relating to his term as Director. Among his personal papers, Series E, Photographs, contains 34 photos relating to an EEO conference, his successful campaign for the Alaska State House of Representatives, and miscellaneous subjects.

JOHN JAMES BRENNAN (1935-1999). Papers; 1919-1987. 2.3 cu. ft. Inventory. The collection consists of the papers of an Alaskan geologist and Anchorage native. The collection contains: 944 black and white prints; 85 color prints; and 645 color 35mm slides. Subjects of the photographs and slides include: Brennan, his family and friends in Anchorage and Fort Worth Texas; the Alaska Railroad; vacations; Brennan's dogs; and hunting in Alaska.

WILSON W. BRINE. Papers; 1919-1926, 1938. .5 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection primarily consists of the diaries, letters, and photos of Wilson W. Brine while serving as Clerk of the St. Michael Board of the U.S. Steamboat Inspection Service. They concern his life in Washington and his trips through Alaska. There is also a xerographic copy of Wilson W. Brine's photograph album from his Alaskan trips, as well as 464 photographic prints and negatives reproduced from the album. The photographs depict ships, Alaskan towns and villages, and scenery.

GEORGE K. "STEVE" BRODIE (b. 1907). Papers; 1934, 1938 - 1941. .3 cu. ft. Inventory.
This collection contains papers relating to "Steve" Brodie's service on Kodiak Island (1938) and other aspects of his naval career. The collection contains 66 prints and 76 negatives. About half of the 66 prints relate generally to Alaska while most of the remainder are of warships involved in the U. S. Navy maneuvers in the Pacific in 1934. The negatives include construction scenes in Alaska in 1938 and naval vessels during the maneuvers in 1934. Also, there are copy prints and negatives.

BROOKS RANGE TRUST. Records; 1972-1982. 1.5 cu. ft. Inventory.
The collection contains the records of the Brooks Range Trust which was established in 1972 from the estate of mountaineer, Hans van der Laan. Series One contains 98 slides relating to a trip through the "Gates of the Arctic" taken by Hans van der Laan (1969) and 1 photo of that outdoorsman .

DAVID K. BROWN. Photographs and Papers; 1942-1981, 2002. .2 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the photos and papers of a U. S. Goverment engineer. It contains four original black and white prints; 18 black and white and one color copy prints; and two photo CDs. Subjects of the original prints include Portage Glacier and two different Kuskokwim River Alaska Native families. The copy prints include views of Portage Lake and Portage Glacier, and men, buildings, and machinery involved in building the Whittier Tunnel from 1942. A Bethel Hospital case study also includes three black and white prints of hospital construction , and two color prints of the completed hospital.

ARTHUR F. BUDDINGTON (1890-1980) (Ak. Pac. Univ. Col.). Southeast Alaska Photographs; 1920-1925. .25 cu. ft. List.
The collection consists of the Southeast Alaska photographs of geologist Arthur F. Buddington. The collection contains 420 black and white prints from three original photograph albums. The photographs document mountains, glaciers, islands, valleys, rivers, creeks and other geological features in the Wrangell, Sitka, Juneau, Ketchikan, Petersburg and Hyder districts. There are also images showing members of the U. S. Geological Survey team and their boat, the Beilby.

BENEDICT J. BURVAINIS (1918-1999). World War II Photographs and Papers; 1939-1945, 1958. .25 cu. ft.
The collection consists of the World War II era photographs and papers of a Transportation Corps soldier. The collection contains 254 black and white photographs, 13 photo post cards, and 14 black and white negatives. 174 of the photographs and 6 of the negatives, concern Burvainis's military service. Subjects of these photographs include; the 16th Field Artillery Battalion at Fort Myer, Virginia, and Massena, New York (1939-1940); Camp Papago in Phoenix, Arizona (1942); and Adak Army Air Field (1944-1945). 79 of the photographs and 8 of the negatives, concern Burvainis's home life, his wife Lenora, and his children, relatives, and friends.
