HARPOON. Records; 1978-1982.
.35 cu. ft. Folder list.

The Harpoon was a private literary journal published regularly in Anchorage, Alaska, from 1979 to 1981. Ten magazines were published by the co-editors, Steven C. Levi and Joanne Townsend, before the cessation of the effort in 1982. The journal primarily published poetry, though the editors made an effort to also publish short stories, experimental poetry, and translations. At the end of the first year of operation it was listed as an Outstanding Small Press in America.

This collection contains correspondence and papers concerning the operation of the Harpoon, as well as copies of the journal. There are letters from authors, primarily poets, as well as correspondence concerning the closing of the journal. Most of the records relate to financial, business, and tax matters. There are copies of all of the issues of the journal, eight in total.

This collection was presented to the Archives & Manuscripts Department by Steven C. Levi in 1986.
