Mary Healy was the wife of Michael A. Healy, a Captain in the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service. During her marriage to Captain Healy, she accompanied him on several trips to Alaska. Places which she visited include Unalaska, St. Paul and St. George Islands, St. Lawrence Island, Point Hope, Siberia, Point Barrow, Kotzebue, and Sitka.
This collection contains Mary Healy's diaries which were written on her voyages to Alaska with her husband on the Revenue Steamer Bear, and other ships, 1883-1891. In her diaries she records the events of her various trips, the names of other travelers, and her impressions of the various places she visited.
The collection was acquired by the UAA Archives & Manuscripts Department from the Huntington Library, California, in 1985.
