GREATER ANCHORAGE AREA BOROUGH. CHARTER COMMISSION, 1975. Records; 1975-1976. 5.2 cu. ft. Inventory.
The Greater Anchorage Area Borough Charter Commission was formed in 1975 to write a charter providing for the unification of the governments of the City of Anchorage and the Greater Anchorage Area Borough into the Municipality of Anchorage. The commission consisted of eleven elected members. A previous charter commission worked between 1969 and 1971, but the charter was defeated by the voters in 1970 and 1971 before being passed in 1975. (See the collection "Anchorage Area Charter Commission, 1970-1971").
The collection consists of the operating records of the Greater Anchorage Area Borough Charter Commission. It is divided into two main sections. Section one contains meeting minutes and notes; tapes of public meetings and hearings; operations files including drafts, budgets, memoranda, and surveys; legal files; publications; and clippings. Section two contains commission member Dick Fischer's files of meeting agendas, minutes and reports.
The collection was placed on deposit at the archives by the Anchorage Law Library in 1981. Additional materials were added in 1983 and 1984.
