CHESTER E. BARR. World War II Scrapbook; 1942-1944. .2 cu. ft.
Chester E. Barr was a Corporal in the United States Army, 131st Signal Radio Intelligence Company. Originally from Sacramento, California, Barr arrived at the Army Docks in Anchorage, Alaska, on September 11, 1942. He was stationed at Fort Richardson, in Anchorage, from September 1942 through September 1944. While serving in the 131st, Barr received the Good Conduct Medal. While in Alaska, Barr was a member of the Fort Richardson Ski Club and took many photographs of his activities and surroundings, which he sent home to his mother.
This collection consists of a scrapbook of clippings and photographs relating to Chester Barr's service in the U.S. Army, 131st Signal Radio Intelligence Company. The scrapbook, assembled by Barr's mother, includes clippings on World War II in Europe and the Pacific; 34 photographs of Barr and his Army co-workers, local buildings, and scenery; and a document relating to Barr's Good Conduct Medal. Also included in the collection are xerographic copies of the scrapbook, and 22 copy negatives of selected photographs.
This collection was acquired by the archives in December 2000.
